Henning Harders used our educational material to prepare

The Act education website has been instrumental in helping Henning Harders prepare for 1 October 2018

The quick and easy overviews were the most beneficial in helping the business understand what changes could affect them.

That’s according to Tony Arrowsmith, Customs and Logistics Manager for Henning Harders, a major New Zealand and Australian freight forwarding and custom brokerage firm that also has agents right across the globe.

“The site is really good – it’s simple and straightforward, and uses plain English to explain the main changes. What’s even better is that you can quickly work out what changes might affect your business, and then dig down further to get the detail you need,” he says.

As a company that manages imports, exports and other freight logistics, Henning Harders works closely with international firms wanting to export to New Zealand and those wanting to export globally from New Zealand. Henning Harders transports a wide range of products, from machinery through to excise goods and chemicals.

“After using the material we discovered that overall the changes won’t have a major impact on how we work day to day. However, we’re pleased with things like the new valuation rulings service and the ability to store business records off-shore without having to retain hard copies here. These will make things easier for our clients and our business.”

Tony says another positive outcome will be a greater level of compliance from businesses involved in importing, exporting and the manufacture of excisable goods such as alcohol, fuel and tobacco, thanks to greater clarity around penalties and fines.

Tony says his team of brokers and freight logistics officers have all reviewed the education website and particularly enjoyed the animated video overview of the changes.

“I recommend that everyone has a look at the short animation because it’s a great snapshot of the changes and it’s also fun.”
