CBAFF tailors Customs’ material for training their members

How the Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Federation of New Zealand tailors our material to train their members.

The ability to tailor Customs’education material for its own members has been of huge benefit for the Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Federation of New Zealand (CBAFF).

With more than 100 business members, CBAFF is the industry association for the customs brokerage and freight logistics sectors. It provides a range of services for its organisations, including industry training.

“We’ve found the material that Customs has provided to be comprehensive, easy to follow and of a high standard, which has made things really easy for us,” says Janette Avis who develops and delivers industry training for CBAFF.

“It’s not only easy to find from their website, but also to navigate, and it’s an added bonus that Customs has also provided material in Word format so that industry associations can adapt it to their members’ needs,” she says.

CBAFF is encouraging its members to go straight to Customs’ website to access the material, as well as incorporating it into its training modules for those wanting to qualify as a customs broker. Janette estimates that around 100 people take part in their quarterly modular-based training sessions each year.

“Right now we’re teaching students using the current Act but cross-referencing it with the new Act, and from 1 October it will all be in the new Act.

Brokers often need to refer to the legislation which is why resources like the Comparison Guide are so useful.

“But most of all I feel the visibility around the new Act, and the supporting material, is excellent. If people need to know something, it’s easy to find it on the website. I’m also looking forward to attending one of the regional information meetings,” Janette says.
